Ascot International School is the best choice for your child because it provides a world class, CIS accredited, IB education for students in a nuturing and caring, family-like environment.
PRIMARY YEARS FROM 5 TO 12 YEARS
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 – 12
nurtures and develops young students as caring, active
participants in a lifelong journey of learning.
In Early Years, Ascot International School follows the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), which focuses on inquiry, concept-driven learning and play-based learning. What is unique about Ascot is our emphasis on HOW students are taught, versus “what” students are taught. As a school, Ascot focuses on the development of the child as a whole, who is an engaged inquirer, demonstrating agency (ownership) for learning in and outside of the classroom. Through “inquiry”, a child’s investigations across and beyond subject areas will strengthen knowledge and understanding as they explore global, topical and relevant big picture questions or transdisciplinary themes.
Inquiry builds upon a child’s natural curiosity for the world around them. At Ascot International School, we encourage and nurture this curiosity. Inquiry puts the student at the center of the learning as it encourages students to come up with their own questions, teaches them to explore various approaches and be active participants in their learning. Not only does inquiry move students from their current level of understanding to a new, deeper understanding, but also teaches students to be responsible for their own learning. Play is also encouraged as a method of inquiry provocation and to get students engaged in the topics they are inquiring into.
As an IB World School, Ascot International School offers the best method of learning – a transdisciplinary learning. This method of learning can be best described in terms of its interconnectivity and its ability to be applied across all subjects and to real life. A transdisciplinary concept stretches across Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Fine Arts and so on and connects them all together. Learning at Ascot is underpinned by six transdiciplinary themes, each selected for their relevance to the real world. Learners explore the commonalities of human experience by investigating these themes through programme of inquiry.
Inquiry into the nature of self; beliefs and values; person, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; and human relationships
Inquiry into our orientation in place and time; personal histories; the discoveries and explorations of humankind; and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations.
Inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values.
Inquiry into the natural world and its laws, the interaction between the natural world and human societies; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.
Inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organizations; and their impact on humankind and the environment.
Inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and other living things; access to equal opportunities; and peace and conflict resolution.
As an example to get you, as parents, to understand how these transdisciplinary themes are explored at Ascot, here is a little sneak peak into our Early Years inquiry into “Who We Are”.
