Creating success both on and off the sports field
Young people love to play sports. It is a crucial part of growing up and the process of training, competing, being defeated and emerging teaches lifelong principles which are hard to gain elsewhere. However, concerned parents may think that for their children to receive the best academic guidance possible they must look for a school which sacrifices its extra-curricular offerings. For Ascot International School, this is not the case.
While Ascot International School strives to provide the best education in Thailand, this does not mean we neglect our athletically gifted students. In fact, sport remains an integral part of our identity, and we are continuing to explore ways we can provide more sports and activities for our students to participate in.
Our most well known sporting society, the Ascot Football Academy (AFA), was founded in 2010 with the purpose of creating a professional football training environment. Both boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 can join the AFA, which provides structured training programs and tournaments delivered by world class professional football coaches. While the Academy’s core focus in on professionalism, the program is open to students of all skill levels.
With the high level of expertise provided by the coaches, the AFA has been highly successful in Thailand. From its stellar reputation, the AFA has attracted participants from various international, bilingual and public schools. Today, the Academy has over 120 members from teams which rank highly across Thai football leagues, a testament to the dedication of our students. However, the most meaningful impact of students participating in the AFA is their exposure to students from diverse backgrounds. Uniting for their love of football, students are encouraged to break down barriers and celebrate their differences.
However, while it would have been easy to rest on our laurels through our previous success with the AFA, we have continued to endeavour to provide new sporting programmes catering to students with different interests. With offerings such as volleyball, table tennis and Thai boxing, our students have access to a range of sports programs which will help them unlock their potential while receiving a world class education. Similarly to the AFA, all of our programs are delivered by professional coaches who aim to teach exceptional sporting skills to all of our students.
Ascot International’s coaches believe in the power of sports to not only create successful athletes, but to teach valuable lessons such as integrity, discipline, and sportsmanship. These sports initiatives do not require students to sacrifice their academic success. Instead, students will learn to balance their studies with participating in a team or solo sporting environment, requiring them to learn time management, commitment, and the value of sustainable habits.
Of course, these skills are not only fostered in a competitive sporting environment. Many students would rather pursue an artistic or creative endeavour, and for these children we provide a range of opportunities. Students at Ascot International can choose from activities such as ballet, dance, and performance, all requiring the same level of commitment and application as our sport offerings. These programs are delivered with the same rigour and attention to detail you can expect from Ascot International, and we celebrate the achievements of all students regardless of the discipline they have selected.
