Building globally minded, compassionate, and capable young people
At Ascot International School, we believe that education is not only about what students know, but also about who they become. As an IB World School, we are committed to nurturing students who are confident, compassionate, principled, and ready to engage in the world around them.
This commitment is expressed through the IB Learner Profile, a set of 10 powerful attributes that guide the learning journey from Early Years through to Secondary. These qualities are not taught as a subject, but lived and reflected in every corner of our school community.
The learner profile is at the core of all IB programmes and it reflects our shared mission: to develop internationally minded people who help to create a better and more peaceful world. At Ascot, we bring this mission to life every day.
The IB Learner Profile is a framework of values that helps young people grow into capable, ethical, and open-minded individuals. Each attribute is a building block in the development of students who are not only academically successful, but also socially responsible and emotionally aware.
According to the International Baccalaureate® (IB), these 10 attributes support students in becoming “responsible members of local, national and global communities” . Let’s take a closer look at what each attribute means, and how we integrate them into life at Ascot.
We nurture curiosity by encouraging students to ask questions, research, and think deeply. At Ascot, learning is inquiry-driven. Whether students are investigating climate change, cultural stories, or mathematical patterns, they develop skills to learn independently and collaboratively.

We teach students how to think critically, solve problems, and make ethical decisions. They learn to analyse information, challenge assumptions, and come up with creative solutions.
Students at Ascot express themselves clearly in more than one language. They are encouraged to share ideas with confidence and to listen respectfully to others. Collaborative learning plays a big role in developing this skill.
We place a strong emphasis on honesty, fairness, and respect. Students are taught to take responsibility for their actions and to understand the impact of their decisions on others and the environment.
Living in an international community, students learn to appreciate their own culture and respect the traditions and beliefs of others. Open-mindedness helps them grow through different perspectives.
Kindness is more than a word at Ascot, it’s a way of being. We encourage students to show empathy, compassion, and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Our students are supported to try new things, face challenges, and be courageous in their learning. From public speaking to exploring new subjects, they develop resilience and determination.
A healthy balance of academics, arts, physical education, and mindfulness is built into our programmes. Students learn how to manage their time, emotions, and responsibilities to support overall well-being.
Students regularly reflect on what they’ve learned, how they’ve grown, and what they want to improve. This helps them become more aware of their strengths and areas for growth.
At Ascot, these attributes are not taught in isolation. They are deeply connected to everything we do, from classroom learning and school events to how we speak, behave, and treat one another. Our teachers model these traits, and students are given real opportunities to develop them through action.
This profile also aligns with Ascot’s strategic vision for 2024–2029, which focuses on student well-being, belonging, responsibility, and community. We believe that education should shape students into “resilient, principled, and caring individuals” who are ready to lead with kindness and purpose .
At Ascot, the IB Learner Profile is more than just a philosophy, it’s a practice. We weave it into the daily experience of every student, from our youngest learners in Early Years to those preparing for graduation in the Diploma or Career-related Programme.
Using inquiry-based learning, reflection, and real-world application, our teachers help students build the learner profile naturally, in meaningful ways. We ensure that every unit of inquiry, lesson plan, and student interaction reflects the values of the profile.

Each year level at Ascot adapts the learner profile to match students’ age and developmental stage. For example:
In Year 3, we celebrate students who actively demonstrate the attributes of the learner profile. Each week, one student is chosen as the “Star of the Week”, not for academic performance alone, but for showing a strong commitment to qualities like caring, open-mindedness, or principled behaviour.
If a student comforts a peer or helps clean up without being asked, they may be recognised for being caring. If another takes a brave step in presenting an idea to the class, we may highlight them as a risk-taker. These recognitions are proudly shared with classmates and families, encouraging a ripple effect across the community.
This system allows every child to see that character and attitude matter just as much as grades and it motivates others to reflect and engage more deeply with these attributes.
In Early Years, the learner profile is introduced through play-based, child-centered and exploration, where students are encouraged to be inquirers, ask questions, and try new ideas without fear of failure. Teachers guide students to notice and talk about attributes. For example, noticing when a child shares their toy (caring) or solves a puzzle in a new way (thinker).
These moments help young learners recognise their strengths, build empathy, and develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

In our Secondary School, the learner profile becomes more self-directed and globally aware. Students reflect regularly on how they are growing in these areas. Whether preparing for an exhibition, working on community service, or completing a group project, they are encouraged to evaluate their behaviour and mindset.
They may write reflections asking:
This process helps students become independent, thoughtful learners who understand the value of personal growth beyond academic success.

The Learner Profile is a reflection of Ascot’s deep commitment to holistic education. We are not only preparing students for tests or university applications, we are preparing them for life.
These 10 attributes align with Ascot’s strategic values, including:
We also see the Learner Profile as a tool for inclusion and belonging. When students see their actions and identities reflected in the learning community, they feel valued. This is especially important in our diverse, international environment where every culture and language is respected.
At Ascot, we often say that the Learner Profile is not something to achieve once, it’s something we live, reflect on, and grow into every day.
At Ascot International School, we don’t just teach. We inspire growth, build values, and empower every child to find their place in the world.
