Childhood is filled with small moments.
A child showing their parents something they created. A parent sitting beside their child in the classroom. A family laughing together during an activity. A teacher watching as a child proudly explains what they have learned.
These moments may only last a few minutes, but for a child, they can become memories that stay with them for many years.
At Ascot International School, we believe that child development is not only about academic progress. It is also about relationships, confidence, happiness and the feeling that the important people in a child’s life are part of their journey.
This is one of the reasons we create experiences such as our Early Years Parent Partnership Experience and Primary Parent Partnership Experience. They give parents the opportunity to step into their child’s world, learn together and create meaningful memories as a family.
Children may not remember every lesson they had at school or every activity they completed.
But they may remember the day their mother or father came into their classroom.
They may remember showing their parents where they sit, introducing them to their friends or proudly explaining something they have learned.
For adults, these may seem like simple moments. For children, they can mean much more.
When parents take part in their school experience, children can see that their learning matters to the people they love. This can help them feel proud, confident and supported.
These positive experiences can become an important part of their childhood memories.
A child’s school life is a big part of their world.
Every day, they spend time learning, playing, asking questions, solving problems and building relationships with their teachers and friends.
However, parents do not always have the opportunity to see these experiences for themselves.
This is why our Parent Partnership Experiences are more than school events.
They are opportunities for parents to enter their child’s learning environment and experience a small part of their school life together.
During our recent Early Years and Primary Parent Partnership Experiences, parents joined their children in learning activities and shared time together within the school environment.
Instead of simply hearing about what happens at school, parents could experience it alongside their children.
Strong primary school relationships involve more than the relationship between a student and teacher.
Children benefit when families, teachers and the school community work together.
When a parent joins an activity, listens to their child’s ideas or learns something alongside them, it sends an important message:
“What you are doing matters to me.”
For a child, this can be powerful.
It shows them that their parents are interested in their learning and that home and school are connected.
At the same time, parents have an opportunity to understand more about how their child learns, communicates and interacts with others.
This creates a stronger partnership between children, parents and teachers.
Imagine a child completing an activity and immediately looking towards their parent with a smile.
They want to say, “Look what I did!”
That small moment of recognition can help build confidence.
Children naturally want to share their achievements with the people who are important to them. When parents are present to celebrate these moments, children can feel proud of themselves and more confident about trying something new.
These experiences support student wellbeing because children feel that they are surrounded by people who care about their growth.
At Ascot, our approach places children at the centre of learning and supports the development of the whole child.
Children learn best when they feel safe, comfortable and connected to the people around them.
A strong sense of belonging helps children understand that school is not simply a place they attend every day. It is a community where they have relationships, experiences and memories.
Ascot aims to create a welcoming, family-friendly environment where children can feel part of a learning community.
Parent Partnership experiences help strengthen this connection.
When children see their parents talking with teachers, joining activities and spending time in their school environment, the different parts of their lives come together.
Home and school no longer feel like two completely separate worlds.
They become part of the same journey.
Parent partnership does not begin and end with one event.
Our Parent Partnership Experiences represent something bigger: the relationship between families and the school throughout a child’s education.
Good communication between school and families can build trust and create opportunities for parents to become active partners in their child’s development.
As children grow, the way parents support them may change.
In Early Years, it may be sitting beside them during an activity.
In Primary, it may be listening as they explain their learning.
Later, it may simply be asking about their day, encouraging them when something is difficult or celebrating their progress.
The moments change, but the message remains the same:
“I am here. I am interested. I am proud of you.”
One day, the children sitting in our classrooms today will be adults.
They may not remember every worksheet, every classroom activity or every school day.
But we hope they will remember how school made them feel.
They may remember their parents walking into their classroom.
They may remember proudly showing them their work.
They may remember laughing together during an activity.
They may remember their teachers encouraging them and their friends learning beside them.
Most importantly, they may remember feeling that they belonged.
This is why these moments matter.
At Ascot International School, we want every child to grow up feeling Known, Valued and Heard. By bringing students, parents and teachers together, we can create more than learning experiences.
We can create moments of connection, belonging and happiness that become part of a child’s story.
