What Makes Students Successful in Secondary School? Success Is About

At Ascot International School, we believe that some of the most valuable learning experiences happen when students step outside the classroom and engage with the real world. While lessons in school provide important knowledge and understanding, hands-on experiences allow students to apply what they have learned in meaningful and memorable ways.
Our recent visit to Get Growing Farm gave students an exciting opportunity to connect with nature while discovering the importance of sustainability, responsibility, and caring for living things. Throughout the day, they explored how food is produced, how farms support local communities, and how people can work together to care for the environment.
Experiences like these encourage curiosity and inspire students to become active learners who understand that education extends far beyond textbooks. They also reflect our commitment to developing confident, compassionate, and internationally minded young people who are prepared to make a positive contribution to the world.

One of the most exciting parts of the visit was that every student became an active participant. Instead of simply observing, they rolled up their sleeves and experienced life on a working farm through a range of practical activities.
Students prepared garden beds by working with the soil and learning why healthy soil is essential for growing vegetables and plants. They also visited the chicken coop, where they discovered how chickens are cared for each day and why animal welfare is an important part of responsible farming.
Another highlight was feeding the farm animals and collecting fresh eggs. These simple yet meaningful experiences helped students understand that the food they enjoy every day comes from careful planning, hard work, and respect for nature.
Learning through real experiences encouraged students to ask thoughtful questions, observe carefully, and make connections between what they learn in science, geography, and everyday life.
By taking part in each activity themselves, students gained a much deeper understanding than they could through classroom learning alone.

Outdoor learning provides opportunities for students to see how classroom subjects connect with the real world.
During their visit, students observed living ecosystems, explored food production, and experienced science in action. They discovered that learning is not limited to one subject but can connect science, geography, environmental studies, health, and personal development.
Being surrounded by nature also encouraged students to slow down, observe carefully, and appreciate the world around them. Many students asked thoughtful questions about animals, plants, farming, and sustainability, demonstrating genuine curiosity and a desire to learn more.
Experiences like these help students become independent thinkers who enjoy exploring new ideas and making meaningful connections across different areas of learning.
At Ascot International School, we believe that preparing students for the future means helping them become knowledgeable, caring, and responsible global citizens.
Visits like Get Growing Farm allow students to understand that every action, no matter how small, can contribute to a more sustainable world. They learn that caring for animals, protecting natural resources, and respecting the environment are responsibilities shared by everyone. By combining academic learning with practical experiences, we help students develop the confidence, compassion, and critical thinking skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
We are incredibly proud of all our young learners for embracing every activity with enthusiasm, kindness, and a willingness to learn. Their curiosity, teamwork, and respect for nature made the day both meaningful and memorable.
Learning beyond the classroom continues to play an important role in an Ascot education, helping every student grow into a confident learner, a caring community member, and a responsible global citizen ready to make a positive difference wherever life takes them.
