Year 9 Residential Trip to Khao Yai: Adventure, Challenge, and Growth Beyond the Classroom

Some of the most valuable learning experiences happen outside the classroom. At Ascot International School, we believe students grow through real-life experiences that encourage them to challenge themselves, work together, and become more independent.

Our Year 9 students recently returned from an unforgettable residential trip to Khao Yai. Throughout the week, they explored nature, learned new outdoor skills, and built stronger friendships while developing confidence and resilience.

Learning Through Adventure

The residential programme gave students many opportunities to step outside their comfort zones. Every activity encouraged them to communicate, solve problems, and support one another.

During the trip, students took part in a wide range of outdoor activities, including:

  • High ropes and aerial challenge courses
  • Archery
  • Bushcraft survival skills
  • Shelter building
  • Knot tying
  • Fire starting
  • Team-building games
  • River scrambling

Each challenge helped students develop teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and confidence while having fun together.

Exploring the Beauty of Khao Yai National Park

One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Khao Yai National Park. Students trekked through forest trails and rocky riverbeds while learning about Thailand’s rich natural environment.

Guided by experienced park rangers and outdoor educators, students discovered local plants, wildlife, and ecosystems. Along the way, they spotted hornbills, found elephant footprints, and gained a deeper appreciation for nature and the importance of protecting it.

The experience allowed students to connect classroom learning with the real world while developing curiosity and environmental awareness.

Building Independence and Strong Friendships

The residential experience was about more than outdoor adventure. Living together encouraged students to become more responsible and independent in their daily routines.

Students worked together to keep their tents and camp areas clean, helped classmates during challenging activities, and supported one another throughout the week.

Evenings were filled with shared meals, games, campfire activities, marshmallow roasting, and time to relax with friends. These simple moments helped strengthen friendships and created memories that students will remember for years to come.

Developing Skills for Life

At Ascot International School, residential trips are an important part of our learning programme because they help students develop skills that cannot always be learned in the classroom.

Throughout the week, our Year 9 students demonstrated resilience, cooperation, respect, and a positive attitude. Every challenge became an opportunity to grow, and every success helped build greater confidence.

We are incredibly proud of how our students encouraged one another, embraced new experiences, and showed determination throughout the residential. Their adventure in Khao Yai was filled with learning, laughter, and personal growth, making it a truly rewarding experience for everyone involved.
